One of the things I absolutely love about being a wedding photographer is the feeling like I get to take a sneak peek into the oh-so-lovely lives of my couples. So, when Carly and Derty said that they wanted to do a picnic themed shoot, I got pretty excited because it was an idea that was genuinely “them.” We started at their usual shopping grounds, Trader Joe’s, and then we went back to their place for some picnic packing and we ended in the hills of Ventura overlooking the city and even getting a tiiiiny glimpse of an ocean view.
Here’s a fun fact for those of you who are asking yourselves “is his name actually Derty?” The answer is “No.” Here is the condensed story of his name. Matt (a.k.a. “Derty”) is from Alabama (a.k.a. the “derty sowf” if you spell the pronunciation phonetically). He came out to Southern California and moved into a house with 3 other guys named Matt. They needed nicknames in order to prevent confusion, so Matt became “Derty” and the name has stuck ever since.
